About VAHS:
The Vancouver Aboriginal Health Society (VAHS) has been providing culturally grounded health and wellness services to the Downtown Eastside (DTES) community for over 30 years. Our Indigenous Early Years (IEY) program supports families with children aged 0-6 by creating welcoming spaces rooted in Indigenous culture, values, and knowledge.
Position Summary:
The Casual ECE Childminder will provide safe, nurturing, and culturally respectful care to children (ages 0–6) during IEY program activities and events. This role helps ensure that families feel supported while attending programs by offering flexible, high-quality childminding on a casual basis.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide warm, responsive, and developmentally appropriate care in a culturally safe environment
- Set up and maintain an engaging, safe play space tailored to children’s needs
- Communicate respectfully with parents, caregivers, and staff
- Promote early learning through play and interaction
- Ensure cleanliness and organization of the childminding space
- Collaborate with the IEY team to support the well-being of children and families
Qualifications:
- Early Childhood Education (ECE) Certificate or Assistant (ECEA) Certification (required)
- Valid First Aid & CPR Level C, or willingness to obtain
- Experience working with Indigenous children and families is an asset
- Clear Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening (required)
- Flexibility to work on-call or with short notice
