Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM

Position Summary
Under the supervision of the Director of Indigenous Early Years, the Aboriginal Infant Development Worker (AIDW) supports children and families through the Indigenous Early Years (IEY) Program at Vancouver Aboriginal Health Society (VAHS).
The AIDW works alongside parents, caregivers, and community professionals to support infant and early childhood development through culturally grounded, family-centred care. This role includes outreach visits, developmental guidance, referrals, advocacy, and individualized support planning for Indigenous children and families.
This position requires community outreach, home visits, and the ability to manage a dynamic caseload while building strong and respectful relationships with families and community partners.
Key Responsibilities
• Conduct intake interviews and gather background information to assess family and infant needs
• Provide outreach visits in homes and community settings to support infant development and family wellness
• Develop individualized family support plans in collaboration with caregivers and community professionals
• Monitor infant progress and adapt support strategies as needed
• Support parents and caregivers through education, advocacy, and culturally grounded guidance
• Assist families in accessing diagnostic assessments, childcare, medical services, and community supports
• Support transitions into childcare, preschool, and supported childcare programs
• Foster positive parent-child relationships and continuity of care for infants-in-care
• Provide education and advocacy related to infant development, developmental delays, and family wellness
• Build collaborative relationships with community agencies, professionals, and support networks
• Respond appropriately to crisis situations and follow all reporting obligations and organizational policies
• Maintain accurate and confidential client and program records
• Participate in staff meetings, team collaboration, and ongoing program development
• Perform other related duties as required
Qualifications
• Degree or diploma in Infant Development, Early Childhood Education, Nursing, Education, Psychology, Social Sciences, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
• Minimum 3+ years of experience working in a similar environment
• Experience supporting infants, children, and families through community-based or family-centred programming
• Knowledge and experience working with developmental delays, early intervention, and family support services
• Strong understanding of Indigenous cultural safety and trauma-informed practice
• Ability to work collaboratively with families, Elders, staff, and community professionals
• Strong documentation, organization, and communication skills
• Valid BC Driver’s License and access to a safe, reliable vehicle
Remuneration
This is a full-time union position covered under the BCGEU collective agreement.
The starting wage for this position is $35.00/hour, plus eligibility for benefits and pension following successful completion of the probationary period.
