On-Call Handyperson
Program: Facilities and Maintenance
Status: Casual / On-Call
Location: 449 East Hastings Street, Vancouver, BC
Wages: Based on experience and type of work. All work must be pre-approved by the Executive Director.


Job Summary:

Vancouver Aboriginal Health Society (VAHS) is seeking a reliable and experienced On-Call Handyperson to support with maintenance and small repair needs at our main location and program spaces.

The ideal candidate has strong general maintenance skills and can respond to urgent requests efficiently. Tasks vary based on need and may include minor plumbing, electrical, carpentry, furniture assembly, painting, and small installations.


Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform general maintenance and repairs across VAHS-operated spaces

  • Respond to urgent service calls (e.g. AC issues, fire alarm resets, ceiling tile replacement)

  • Carry out tasks like painting, assembling furniture, mounting equipment, etc.

  • Purchase minor materials when needed (reimbursed with receipt)

  • Maintain a high level of respect and professionalism in culturally sensitive environments


Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Proven experience in general repairs, trades, or facilities maintenance

  • Access to own tools and ability to travel to 449 East Hastings

  • Able to invoice for work and materials, with receipts provided

  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills

  • Must work respectfully within Indigenous spaces and communities


Payment Structure:

Contractors will invoice for hours worked and approved materials.
All work must be pre-approved by the Executive Director before it is undertaken.
