Job Summary
Under the supervision of the Clinic Coordinator and VNHS physicians, the Clinic Nurse provides nursing services, health promotion, education, and counseling to patients. Collaborating with an interdisciplinary team, this role supports excellence in health services and contributes to the development and implementation of clinic goals, objectives, and policies.
Duties and Responsibilities
Nursing Duties
- Provide comprehensive nursing care to primary care patients.
- Perform clinical tasks including adult immunizations, TB screening, phlebotomy, STD testing and treatment, pelvic and breast exams, contraceptive education and management, pregnancy testing with referrals, harm reduction education, HIV/AIDS care, and advanced wound management.
- Coordinate patient care, collaborating with hospitals, home care, outreach nurses, detox centers, long-term care facilities, mental health teams, HIV drop-in centers, and social service agencies.
- Lead the chronic disease management program, focusing on HIV and diabetes.
- Ensure annual TB testing and influenza vaccinations for clinic staff and provide Hepatitis A and B vaccinations for new staff.
Human Resources
- Supervise nursing practicum placements.
- Support the training and supervision of newly hired nurses.
Meetings
- Participate in medical staff and community health meetings as required.
Proposals and Research Projects
- Assist with the implementation and evaluation of research projects and proposals.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Nursing
- Current practicing registration with the CRNBC
- Current CPR certification
- Minimum of 2 years in community health nursing, with knowledge of Indigenous health, inner-city health issues, and management of HIV/AIDS, hepatitis, STDs, and mental illness.
- Phlebotomy training and a solid understanding of immunization protocols
- Strong interpersonal skills
Advanced Practice Skills
- STD testing and treatment, pelvic exams and paps, breast exams, ear syringing, advanced wound care, and ectoparasitic infection management.
