Position Title: Elder
Reports To: Executive Director
Status: Casual, Non-Unionized Position
Wage: $40.00 per hour
Overview:
The Vancouver Aboriginal Health Society (VAHS) is seeking respected Elders to support cultural wellness programs. This role offers a casual and flexible opportunity to guide community members through cultural teachings and healing practices.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide therapeutic listening and holistic wellness guidance.
- Lead cultural teachings, ceremonies, and traditional healing practices (e.g., smudging, prayers, seasonal ceremonies).
- Mentor and support individuals in strengthening their cultural identity.
- Share wisdom and collaborate with the VAHS team to promote community wellness.
Qualifications:
- Must identify as Indigenous (First Nations, Métis, or Inuit).
- Extensive knowledge of Indigenous cultural protocols and traditions.
- Experience in mentoring, healing, and cultural support.
- Strong interpersonal skills to connect with community members compassionately.
