Job Title: Knowledge Keeper
Reports To: Executive Director
Status: Full-Time (Leave Coverage), Unionized
Wage: $31.00 – $35.51 per hour
Location: Downtown Eastside, Vancouver (VAHS Main Office)
Position Summary:
The Vancouver Aboriginal Health Society (VAHS) is seeking a full-time Knowledge Keeper to cover a leave within our Cultural Programming team. This role brings traditional knowledge, teachings, and cultural skills into VAHS wellness programs to support community healing, identity, and connection. The Knowledge Keeper will provide mentorship and cultural education through workshops, storytelling, and land-based teachings.
Please note: This position is based at our main location in the Downtown Eastside of Vancouver. We acknowledge that this area presents unique challenges, but also offers deep opportunities to build trust and make a powerful difference in the lives of Indigenous community members. Applicants should be comfortable working in an urban Indigenous health and healing environment.
Key Responsibilities:

Facilitate cultural workshops (e.g., beading, medicine gathering, sewing, drumming)

Mentor youth, adults, and families in traditional practices

Provide teachings that support holistic wellness and cultural identity

Work collaboratively with Elders and VAHS staff to deliver culturally grounded programming

Support community events and seasonal cultural activities
Qualifications and Requirements:

Must identify as Indigenous (First Nations, Métis, or Inuit)

Recognized by community as a Knowledge Keeper

Skilled in one or more traditional practices (e.g., beading, sewing, language, medicine gathering)

Experience teaching or mentoring in a respectful and inclusive way

Comfortable working in a full-time, community-based setting

A valid driver’s license is an asset
