Job Summary
Reporting to the Clinic Coordinator and working closely with VNHS physicians, the Casual Registered Nurse provides client-centered nursing services, health promotion, education, and support. As part of a collaborative interdisciplinary team, this role helps deliver high-quality primary care services and contributes to clinic goals and priorities.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Care

  • Deliver nursing care to clients accessing primary care services.

  • Perform tasks such as adult immunizations, TB screening, phlebotomy, STD testing and treatment, pelvic and breast exams, contraceptive education, pregnancy testing with referral, harm reduction education, HIV/AIDS support, and advanced wound care.

  • Provide health education and counseling, promoting wellness and harm reduction practices.

Collaboration & Coordination

  • Coordinate care with hospitals, community health teams, detox and long-term care facilities, mental health services, and other partners.

  • Support chronic disease management, including HIV and diabetes care.

  • Promote safe and inclusive care for all clients, particularly those facing systemic barriers.

Additional Duties (as needed)

  • Participate in clinic meetings and occasional research or evaluation projects.

  • Support onboarding and mentoring of new nurses and student placements.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing

  • Current registration with the BC College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM)

  • CPR certification

  • Minimum 2 years of community or primary care nursing experience, preferably with knowledge of Indigenous health, HIV/AIDS, STIs, mental health, and substance use

  • Phlebotomy skills and strong understanding of immunization protocols

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with pelvic exams, Pap tests, breast exams, ear syringing, advanced wound care, and treatment of ectoparasitic infections
